Writing and Communication Arts

Language makes things happen. Through study and practice, students in the Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing and Communication Arts develop confidence and artistry in the power of language, literature, and communication. Students think critically and write creatively, they work in and lead teams, and they learn how to be agents of change in the world. The benefits of this program are both practical and personal. Degree-seeking students cultivate critical awareness of the human experience and pursue creative ways to compose and communicate their ideas. By becoming flexible, problem-solving, and technologically savvy communicators, students prepare for effective entry into a wide range of careers.

Students graduating with a degree in Writing and Communication Arts will meet the following program outcomes:

  1. Understand how language and art shape and influence our world in response to diverse social, cultural, historical, and technological factors.
  2. Analyze and create material, visual, and digital texts for audience, purpose, and context.
  3. Synthesize the terminology, history and major traditions, genres, theory and principles writing and communication arts.
  4. Apply creative and conceptual skills and principles of writing and communication arts for problem solving.  
  5. Demonstrate mastery of communication across disciplines, build leadership skills, and work collaboratively to foster interdisciplinary curiosity, creativity, and citizenship.
