SOC-361 Immigration and Refugees in the Middle East †

Migration has a significant place in history, as it has shaped society, culture, politics, and economics. This course will focus on the history of migration and displacement in the Middle East from the early 19th century to contemporary society. Through interdisciplinary approaches, students will address how immigration shapes the Middle Eastern population and global dynamics. Course topics will include expulsion, diaspora, population exchange, forced settlement, labor migration, migration policies, refugee crisis, and the nation’s response to the refugee crisis.
