KC-201J Wellness: Origami *

The purpose of this course is to promote a wellness mindset (physical, mental, and spiritual).  Through participation in classroom experiential activities and independent learning, students will acquire knowledge and skills that support the practice of wellness in daily life.  Students will be guided, through self-assessment and reflection, to identify areas in their life where the practice of wellness will be most beneficial.  Finally, students will develop a personal plan for continued practice of wellness in the future.  Students may take up to three different Wellness topics for credit.  This wellness course explores the hobby of paper folding.   Our hobbies and pastimes that we pursue outside of school and work support our intellectual, emotional and physical health.  Among enthusiasts, origami is frequently referred to as "the peace of paper"  As this phrase implies, origami can be relaxing.  It can also provide intellectual and creative challenges.   Students will explore both traditional and modern origami models, learn about origami artists, explore the process of creating and diagraming original work, learn about the historical development of origami, and teach origami to others.
