College Record 2023-2024

Mathematics

The Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics and Finance is an interdisciplinary program integrating the fields of business and mathematics.  It provides a foundation for students preparing for a career in actuarial science. The degree also prepares students for graduate programs in applied mathematics, statistics, finance, banking, data analytics, and related fields. Students will be able to demonstrate skills related to the data analytics process: data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation, including the ability to clearly present findings to appropriate audiences. Students will develop an understanding of and be able to apply the quantitative techniques and computational models used to support business decisions in the financial industry (e.g., banks, insurance companies, investment and securities firms and other related industries). Students will be able to use sophisticated math models, computational methods and skills to support investment decisions. This includes but is not limited to skills in developing and pricing new securities, managing risk, and portfolio selection, management, and optimization.

In addition to the major in Applied Mathematics and Finance, Keuka College mathematics offers support to several other programs.  This includes minors in mathematics and applied mathematics, which are valuable complements to many other majors in which quantitative reasoning is important. Mathematics also provides content area knowledge for students majoring in adolescent mathematics education, and general education courses for non-mathematics and non-science majors.

Students majoring in adolescent mathematics education prepare for careers in teaching mathematics at the junior and senior high school level. Requirements can be found under “Requirements for Adolescent Education,” as described in the education section.
