Check-out Procedures
To maintain an atmosphere conducive to academic success, students are expected to leave campus within 24 hours of their last exam each semester or when the residence halls close, whichever comes first. Students who stay after their final exams and cause disturbances in the halls or on campus are subject to immediate removal from the campus and may be subject to further disciplinary action.
Prior to check-out of the residence hall or apartment, each student is required to complete an online express check-out with placing their key in an express-check-out envelope or make arrangements with a Student Life staff member to have the room checked, the Room Condition Report reviewed and signed, and to return room key(s) in a check-out envelope. If you are completing an express checkout envelope, please place your room key(s) in the drop box located in the lobby of your residence hall. If your building does not have a drop box, please return your room key(s) to a Student Life staff member, a Campus Safety Officer, the drop box outside of the Office of Student Life in Dahlstrom Student Center, or the Office of Student Life. The Student Life staff establishes a check-out schedule during the last week of classes at the end of the spring semester for such procedures to occur smoothly.
Resident students opting to utilize the express check-out option forfeit the right to appeal any damage billing received.
Key Drop Box Locations:

- Ball: Located in the basement near the vending machines.
- Harrington: Located near the front entrance.
- Davis: Located in the lobby near the back entrance.
- Saunders: Located next to the lobby desk.
- Space: Located near the front entrance in the lobby.
- Strong and KPA only are allowed to give their key to any RA, and it must be delivered to them in person.
When a student checks out of their room, it is expected that the room’s condition will be the same as when it was moved into, except for normal wear and tear. Any damage to the space or furnishings will be assessed to the student(s) residing in that apartment or room. Please be advised that if you are completing an express checkout, you waive your right to dispute any damage found in the space.
