An introduction to the study of literature through the examination of representative works from a variety of genres, historical periods, and cultural traditions, with an emphasis on the nature of the various literary kinds: prose fiction, non-fiction prose, drama, and poetry. The approach may be topical or thematic and may vary from semester to semester.
