COM-200 Journalism Practicum

The new course COM 200 Journalism Practicum would address basic journalistic skills, such as newsworthiness and practical application in news-writing style. The course focuses on making news judgments, gathering evidence and constructing narratives. Throughout the semester students will be engaged in conversation with practitioners in the field, participate in mandatory seminars and workshops, and practice experiential learning in the classroom, transforming a "news budget" into a campus newspaper. Students in this course would also contribute to complementary medium, such as the Keukonian website and its social media outlets. After this course, students will have a broad understanding of the business of journalism, modern delivery platforms and print design and layout.
