ASL-340 ASL in Education

This course addresses the application and use of sign systems and American Sign Language in education and literacy learning. The course focuses on American Sign Language as it is used within programs serving deaf students; information is presented from a developmental and bilingual-bicultural approach. Students also learn how signs are used to foster communication in early childhood/childhood programs for children with and without disabilities. Studies of sign-supported communication with students with atypical oral language development, such as those with Autism, are also discussed.
