Student Classroom and Professional Conduct Policy

Keuka College acknowledges the obligation to uphold and promote high standards. These standards include course conduct and, for some academic programs, professional standards and dispositions. Course conduct includes all behavior in the classroom, online, Field Period®, cocurricular activities, and out-of-class academic work. Professional standards and dispositions, such as moral character and ethical practice, can be found in specific academic program handbooks. Students whose course conduct behavior violates the Student Code of Conduct will be referred to the student conduct process and outcomes of this process may be shared with specific academic programs that possess professional standards and disposition requirements. Course conduct that does not violate the Student Code of Conduct but violates professional standards and disposition requirements will be referred to the appropriate academic division for review.

Disruptive behavior in the classroom may be defined as, but not limited to, behavior that obstructs or disrupts the learning environment (e.g., repeated outbursts from a student that disrupts the flow of instruction or prevents concentration on the subject taught, failure to cooperate in maintaining classroom decorum), and the inappropriate use of any electronic device that disturbs others.

Discriminatory or abusive language, racial or sexual harassment, and/or documented evidence of behavior significantly inconsistent with Keuka College’s values constitutes cause for Student Code of Conduct action and review of academic programmatic standing. As developing professionals, students are expected to accept responsibility, to observe deadlines, and to react positively to constructive criticism.
