Student Handbook 2022-2023

Health and Safety Inspections

Health and safety inspections occur at intervals throughout the academic year. Inspections are done with at least two authorized staff members present. When possible, inspections are done with at least one of the occupants in the room. Exceptions would be at break periods when students may have left and Residence Life staff is performing inspections for safety reasons.

In order to ensure the safety of students and to meet health and sanitation standards, the College reserves the right to inspect residence hall rooms and apartments. This may be done on a regular basis or when theft of personal or College property is presumed to have occurred or when violations of health, safety, or sanitation standards are suspected.

Room inspections are generally announced in advance or made when the occupant is present, unless there is an emergency situation.

Authorized Staff

  • The Offices of Campus Safety, Facilities, and Residence Life, along with Finger Lakes Premier Properties (FLPP) reserves the right to enter all residence halls and apartment spaces to conduct and perform any and all inspections.

  • Please remember the following:
    • No candles.
    • Curtains and tapestries must be fire-retardant with the manufacturer's tag intact.
    • No tapestries covering more than 10% of a wall.
    • Fire exits are not blocked.
    • Fire doors not propped open.
    • Evacuation plans in all residence hall rooms and apartments should be displayed conspicuously.
    • No space heaters unless issued by the Facilities department.
  • All of these points of emphasis are to be followed all year long.
