Interdisciplinary Minor in Gerontology

Several programs at Keuka College prepare students to work in organizations that address problems and everyday needs of older people. Examples of these programs are nursing, occupational therapy, education, social work, and management. The minor in gerontology addresses characteristics and lifestyles of older people served by many graduates of these programs. Students study a wide range of issues that impact the older person’s life, including those related to health, illness, and disability. Students focus on biological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, financial, historical, leisure, public policy, and other contextual factors that affect older people’s lives.
The minor in gerontology is coordinated by the Division of Nursing.
Minor Requirements
Complete all of the following:
Complete one of the following:
Gerontology Elective: Complete one additional 3 credit Gerontology elective approved by your advisor.
Field Period: Complete a Gerontology Field Period after taking GRN-101 & GRN-301.
* Also fulfills a General Education requirement; Cannot be counted twice in the credit total
† Liberal Arts Credit
- Complete a total of 15 credits
- Achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.00
- Achieve a minor GPA of 2.00
- Complete one field period in the minor area, for an additional 3 credits
- Complete the minor requirements
- At least 1/3 of the coursework completed at Keuka College
The student is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all degree requirements are met satisfactorily.
