CRM-395AC Intro Topics: Crime Scene Processing

This course explores the techniques used for processing crime scenes to locate, document, collect and preserve evidence. Specific attention focuses on methods for discovering evidence, proper evidence documentation and accountability, as well as potential and probable outcomes from scientific examination, investigative significance, and adjudication implications. This course also focuses on techniques for reconstructing crime scenes and application of logical reasoning, sources of information, criminology, victimology, and experience and skills to interpret events surrounding acts of crime.Course learning objectives require students to critically evaluate crime scene scenarios and develop appropriate strategies for discovery, documentation and recovery of investigative evidence. Students must become familiar with crime laboratory services and prepare a laboratory examination request to demonstrate an understanding of forensic science capabilities, limitations and how the findings an be applied to criminal justice issues.
